The SI-TEX MDA-5H is a 5 watt SOTDMA Class B AIS transceiver with a built-in antenna splitter. At 5 watts, it transmits with more than twice the power of standard Class B units, so your vessel is seen at longer ranges. SOTDMA gives Class A-style priority, so you’re still seen in congested ports where standard Class B units can’t get a slot.
The zero-loss VHF splitter lets it share your VHF radio’s antenna, so no second antenna is needed. It has a built-in GPS and GLONASS receiver with a commercial-grade external GPS antenna included. Dual receivers decode all DSC and AIS messages, including MOB and SART. The VHF antenna uses an SO-239 connector and the GPS antenna a TNC connector. Average draw is 220 mA, it’s rated IP67 and the transceiver measures 6.8 x 5 x 2 inches and weighs 0.8 lb.
It has NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000 and USB connections, runs on 9.6 to 31.2 volts and is IPX7 waterproof. In the US, a Class B transceiver must be programmed with your MMSI number by a qualified technician before use. You’ll need your MMSI registration or FCC Ship Station License and a signed programming form from the vessel owner or master. Plan for that step when ordering. Browse more marine networking.
